October 18 No Kings Rally

The Indivisible No Kings rally is this Saturday across the country and all over the world. If you live in or near the Medina County (Ohio) area, come to Medina Square between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM Eastern and join us as we raise our voices in solidarity.

Medina County Indivisible’s No Kings press release:

Medina County Indivisible invites people to gather on Medina Square on Saturday October 18 at 4:30pm with their signs, American flags, and voices to say NO KINGS in America! All are welcome at this peaceful assembly of people concerned about our democracy and upholding our Constitution. One of over 50 planned NO KINGS events in Ohio and 2,200 nationwide on October 18, Mosie Welch an organizer for Medina County Indivisible says, “we are coming together with our signs around Medina Square to say we do not accept this administration’s executive overreach or attempts to diminish our freedoms and rights and we believe standing up publicly to say this is crucial. If you have been on the sidelines and you are worried, please join us at this peaceful gathering.” The evening will conclude with a candlelight uplifting of the U.S Constitution.

“We also remind our legislators that they work for the people who elected them,” says Welch. “We expect elected officials to do their jobs and exercise the checks and balances designed to protect our democracy. America has no kings and we will not stand by silently and let this administration commit abuses of power in our name. We demand the same of our legislators.” Welch shared it’s not only Democrats who are worried. “I’ve had conversations with people of all political backgrounds right here in Medina County who are very concerned. Just recently, a man who identifies as a lifelong Republican told me how worried he is about our democracy, including freedom of speech and the rule of law. He’s been calling his representatives but feels they aren’t listening. Worried that people who are not criminals are being scooped up off the streets by masked agents and being taken to detention facilities without due process, he said all people, no matter who they are, have rights.”

During the NO KINGS rally, Medina County Indivisible will be accepting donations of new items for Next Step Up Emergency Housing Shelter at the north end of the Medina Square. Items such as sponges, dish cloths, dish soap, dish drainer, bathroom cleaning supplies, shower curtains with rings, and laundry basket are needed for clients transitioning into more permanent housing.

Medina County Indivisible will share information regarding how participants can speak out about issues of concern them to their elected officials, businesses, educational institutions, and other groups at our information table on the north end of the square in the bandstand area. Sign-making supplies and some ready-made signs will be available for those who need them. Medina County Indivisible will have a limited number of NO KINGS buttons in two sizes available for a donation benefiting Medina County Indivisible.

Participants are reminded to bring water and snacks if needed, and a chair if sitting is easier. Welch says “we are planning a peaceful first amendment gathering with a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to always act lawfully.” To accomplish this, Medina County Indivisible has developed a safety plan including advance conversations with local authorities. There will be know your rights and de-escalation information available to participants.
