Tonight, I gave a short presentation to the Medina Democratic Club on Ohio House Bill 172 (HB172). This bill, which opponents call the “Child Abuser Protection Act”, removes access to mental health care for children without the need for parental consent. Currently, children can receive this care for 30 days before parental consent is required, giving victims of parental or guardian abuse care they most assuredly need. If this bill passes, abusive parents can block any such care for their children.
I’ve created a Google Slides presentation which gives information about the bill, as well as how Ohio citizens can contact the House committee members which has the bill under consideration. I will also give this presentation on Saturday at the Medina County District Library Highland branch during this month’s Medina County Indivisible meeting. The meeting starts at 10:30 AM Eastern, and I hope to see you there if you live in the area.
