Think Before You Share

While this video is aimed mainly at parents of children, I recommend that we all are cautious with what we share on social media and the Internet, especially on sites and services which are run by corporations. I have long felt uncomfortable with posting on sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Twitter due to their connections to billionaires who make their money using and selling our data for their own interests. It’s one of the reasons I post mainly on this website and on decentralized social media services such as Pixelfed and Mastodon. This video, from privacy expert and advocate Naomi Brockwell, points out how even technology which is marketed as safe for children is untrustworthy. The video also provides tips on how to protect your kids and minimize their digital footprint so they are less likely to experience traumas such as identity theft (or worse) before they become adults.
