The Troopers danced with the devil by the black sun light, and then proceeded to send him back to hell, impaled by the Long Blue Line.

@kevingamin Thank you so much for the image descriptions. That's about as good as it's gonna get for me enjoying the visual aspect of drum corps. Hell, if I could afford it, I'd pay someone to describe some shows for me so I can get what it is they're doing. I've always been curious but there aren't as many fans of that kind of stuff where I live or most like it but are also people who will watch it but not for long periods of time. I'm pretty much the only one that keeps up with the stats, scores, and other mathematics and trends throughout the season.

One of the things I do during the season when I’m at most shows is live blog the performances on Drum Corps Planet. I try to get as detailed as possible while still keeping up with the action. When next season starts, I’ll make sure you can find the discussion forum thread where I’m doing the coverage. You don’t even need an account if you just want to follow along, but you’re more than welcome to sign up (it’s free) and add your own thoughts.

@kevingamin Awesome stuff. I really appreciate it. How do you feel about the Bluecoats win this year? I loved the music in that show and it really worked out well for them. It was pretty unique stuff.

I was able to experience Change Is Everything during Bloo’s opening weekend. It blew me away from the first time I witnessed it and got better from there. That championships was well and truly earned.

@kevingamin Yeah, it was so different from the shows I've experienced before. They really tried to make it as unique as possible and the sound design was epic. Risky move to mic the trumpets during the ballad and have them play hard stuff while it echoed around the stadium like that. It worked too. Definitely one of my personal highlights.

Agape, the balled, was incredible, both from Bluecoats and Mandarins.

@kevingamin I listened to both and I liked the Bluecoats interpretation a little better because it was such a cool effect to have the sound panning throughout the stadium like that. I would've never thought the sound team had the presence of mind to do that kind of stuff. Risky move for sure. Mandarins did it well too but to me, it was a little safe.

Mandarins have Erik Kosman as their sound design head, who essentially invented how sound design works in drum corps when he was with Bluecoats for shows like Tilt and Kinetic Noise. My thought is that they felt the way they handled their soundscape for Agape fit their design aesthetic.

@kevingamin Madison Scouts 1988 is one of the best shows I've ever experienced. The music is so good.

For me, it’s 1987 Santa Clara Vanguard. Their rendition of Russian Christmas Music lives in my head rent free.
