Once again, my uncle Bruce and I joined forces in his West Salem compound to pay tribute to a great drum corps, this time the Cavaliers. We didn’t have a specific format to our show choices, choosing to simply pick shows throughout the Green Machine’s history that we enjoy and remember fondly. We also had a special guest as my cousin Molly joined us for part of the tribute.
1991
I’ve previously written about the 1991 Cavaliers as part of my 12 Corps of Christmas series (read it here), so I won’t go into too much detail about the show itself. Suffice it say that the Cavies were continuing their progression towards the top of the DCI mountain with The Cavalier Anthems: The Advent Collection. In fact, 1991 was nearly their first DCI championship. Only a 4th place finish in brass, a 0.8 deficit, kept the corps from pulling off the victory. Alas, it was Star Of Indiana’s year as they took their only championship with Roman Images and the iconic cross to cross move.
1992 would be the Green Machine’s year, but we’ll talk about that in another post.
