With the passing of Chuck Mangione at age 84 today, I’m dedicating this week’s Throwback Thursday to the time I played a Mangione chart, Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, with the Jim Ott Brass Ensemble at the 2015 Drum Corps International World Championships Semifinals.

A group of us also played at SoundSport the following morning.

As a bonus, here’s the original performance by the 1976 Blue Devils as they won their first DCI title.

And, to finish, the original chart.

Rest in peace, Chuck. I’m glad you saw how much drum corps loved your music.

I am quite OK. Chuck Mangione’s music has been a part of my life pretty much thanks to drum corps, so, while I’m sad he’s gone (what a life he lived!), I’m glad we have his music to remember him by.
