Yesterday, John Donovan and I performed the migration of the Drum Corps Planet website and discussion forums from his host server to mine. With that move, I have taken over ownership and maintenance of DCP. While there are a few behind the scenes things we still need to take care of, website and forum visitors won’t notice.
I will always be thankful for John’s leadership and direction of DCP over the past 20 years. During that time, Drum Corps Planet started live coverage of DCI and DCA championships, featuring commentary from marching arts luminaries such as Key Poulan, Todd Tanji, Brent Turner, and others, as well as spectacular photography from Charlie Groh. John also allowed me to bring the Box Center podcast under the DCP banner, which I hosted for about a decade. Of course, we’ve been the only independent drum corps news and discussion site on the Internet for nearly a quarter century and will continue with that role.
While I plan to keep things business as usual for the short term, there are some housekeeping items which I’ll want to address by the end of the year:
- The WordPress theme of the website is no longer supported and I will need to replace it, so a new look is coming, though the DCP logo and branding will not change.
- The discussion forums are also due for an upgrade, though I need to look at what the new version of the boards software will remove or alter that would affect our users.
I’d also like to look at ways to expand our coverage of the drum corps activity. The Drum Corps Planet podcast could make a return, for example, plus I could look at adding to our live blogging of shows. It’s early, though, and I’d like to take care of the administrative stuff first.
If you’re a Drum Corps Planet user or just check out the site for drum corps news, what would you like to see from DCP in the future?
