I’ve taken so many pictures of drum corps and the marching arts, but I’ve never attempted editing any of those photos. When I found that Affinity Photo 2, a strong alternative to Adobe’s software (no subscription, for starters!) has a 180 day fully functional trial, I decided now was the time to start learning about photo editing.
My first attempt was with this photo I took of the Madison Scouts during the 2024 Drum Corps International World Championships Finals. Here is the original unedited photo:
And here is the edited version, with a simple crop to just the snare line, but also a removal of the two mic stands:
I would like to figure out how to alter lighting and color levels next, but not bad for a first try!
@kevingamin I’ve used Adobe in the past, but the subscription was a huge downside for me too. DxO Photolab (https://www.dxo.com/dxo-photolab/) only has a 30 day trial, but I’ve found it to be a great solution for the lighting/color issues in my marching pics (especially if you shoot RAW). The downside (which it shares with Affinity) is that it doesn’t support Linux and I have to dual-boot my PC 😠
Outside of GIMP, are there photo editing solutions for Linux?
